Hickory Knolls Discovery Center hosts Native Plant Sale June 5

Are you ready to start planning your spring lawn and garden projects? Consider adding native plants to your landscape and bring nature to your own backyard. Native plants offer many benefits.

Hickory Knolls Discovery Center, 3795 Campton Hills Road in St. Charles, will host a Native Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 5.

The 2021 plant sale list indicates the species that have been ordered as inventory for the sale. Actual availability subject to the availability from our nurseries at time of the sale.

Plants will be available for purchase onsite and while supplies last. Naturalists will be on hand to provide assistance on plant species and their growing conditions.

Did you know that native plants: support local wildlife that rely on native plants for food and shelter; attract a wider variety of butterflies, moths, birds and other animals to your yard; are adapted to the region and, once established, require less maintenance in terms of water and chemicals; and provide a variety of colorful blooms, fruits, seeds and shapes to give character to any landscape.

The plants are supplied by Possibility Place, Pizzo Native Plant Nursery, and Country Road Greenhouses/Prarie Plugs.

A few of the plants available include: butterfly milkweed (Asclepias tuberosa); wild geranium (Geranium maculatum); Jacob's Ladder (Polemonium reptans); prairie phlox (Phlox pilosa); columbine (Aquilegia canadensis); Jack-in-the-Pulpit (Arisaema triphyllum); prairie dropseed (Sporobolus heterolepis); and Prairie Blazing Star (Liatris pycnostachya).
