Applications open for Huntley Area Public Library District board
The Huntley Area Public Library District currently has one vacancy on its board of trustees. The library is seeking a library district resident to serve as the newest board member for a term of four years. This is an opportunity to be a part of the library as they continue to progress toward completion of the new building project.
The library district serves a population of about 40,000 people and geographically includes all or portions of Huntley, Lake in the Hills, Algonquin, Union, Crystal Lake, Gilberts, Dundee Township, and Hampshire.
A seven-member board of trustees, elected at-large from inside the district, acts as a governing board, providing general oversight to the library director for high-level library matters.
The board currently holds regular evening board meetings once per month, with special meetings and committee meetings occurring much less frequently. Although a rewarding experience on its own, Illinois law prohibits library board members from being paid for their community service.
This vacancy will be filled by appointment by the remaining trustees. Although there is no election process to fill this vacancy, only one person among multiple respondents will be appointed to the board.
Once the four-year term has been completed, the appointed board member will then face an election, if he or she wishes to remain on the board.

Statements may also be submitted in person at the library, but the library is currently closed as we move into our new addition. The library will reopen on April 26 or sooner, once the move has been completed. In person submissions may be delivered after April 26.
Statements should discuss the candidate's reasons for wanting to serve on the library board. Please also briefly share life experiences, including such matters as educational and professional backgrounds, to assist the library board and director in better understanding you as a person and how you perceive your role as a community leader. Please be sure to include your full name and residential address with your statement.
