Q&A

Q. Why are you running for the library board? Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is it?

A. My family and I are avid users of the Barrington Area Library. I'm running to ensure the library stays relevant for all Barrington Area residents, especially as technology and work habits are changing the way we read and work.

The library needs to continue to be a community space. A place to find answers, a place to learn, a place to study, and a place to gather.

Q. Did your library continue to adequately serve its constituents during the disruptions caused by the pandemic? If so, please cite an example of how it successfully adjusted to continue providing services. If not, please cite a specific example of what could have been done better.

A. I think the parking lot pickup lacked a quick turnaround from request to fulfillment when it was implemented. However, in the last few weeks, the service has gotten much quicker which shows the ability of the library staff to adapt and change, a quality that I really admire. I would recommend increasing the online content choices, especially, the book choices on Overdrive.

Q. If you are an incumbent, describe your main contributions. Tell us of important initiatives you've led. If you are a non-incumbent, tell us what contributions you would make.

A. I am a non-incumbent but my perspective as an avid user and insatiable reader can add great value to the board.

Q. Do you have a library card? How long have you had it? How often do you use it?

A. I do have a library card. I have had a library card since the first week we moved into Barrington in 2000 and I use it almost every day.

Q. What other issues need to be addressed?

A. I am disciplined and responsible with my own finances. I look forward to finding areas where money can be saved or spent in an efficient manner that increases benefits to Barrington Area Library constituents.
