Elgin City Council candidate lottery to be held Wednesday

Candidates for four Elgin City Council seats will find out Wednesday where their name will appear on the April 6 ballot.

The city clerk's office has scheduled the lottery for 10 a.m. in the clerk's office at city hall at 150 Dexter Ct. in Elgin.

A pair of lottery drawings will determine the candidate names to be listed on the first four and last two positions on the ballot.

Four candidates simultaneously filed their petitions for a four-year term at the official start of filing on Nov. 16 at 8 a.m. The ballot order of Anthony Ortiz, Steve Thoren, Dustin Good and Richard Johnson will be determined by the first drawing.

A second lottery drawing will determine the last two positions on the election ballot of the candidates that filed simultaneously on the last day, Nov. 23, at 5 p.m. Those spots will go to incumbents Carol Rauschenberger and Corey Dixon.

The other candidates, including Karin Jones, Jerri McCue, Jodi Perkins, Marcus Banner and Rafael Garcia Jr., will be listed in the order they filed their petitions of candidacy.

Incumbents Terry Gavin and Baldemar Lopez chose not to seek reelection.

Not enough candidates filed petitions for Elgin City Council seats to trigger a Feb. 23 primary.

Mayoral and village board hopefuls in municipalities that aren't eligible for primaries are scheduled to begin filing nominating petitions to village clerks Dec. 14.
