No serious injuries in Glen Ellyn apartment fire

Glen Ellyn firefighters extinguished a fire in an apartment on the 500 block of Pershing Avenue Wednesday afternoon, according to a Glen Ellyn Fire Department news release.

Firefighters responded to a fire at the six-unit building around 2:30 p.m. and confirmed smoke coming from a window on the second floor. They entered the building, located the fire and extinguished it shortly after.

One resident who self-evacuated was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and released.

According to fire officials, the fire was contained to one room of the apartment because a resident of the apartment closed the door of the bedroom where the fire was as well as the door to the apartment before evacuating.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
