Want to run for District 220 board? Get info Wednesday

Former school board members in Barrington Area Unit District 220 will hold an informational meeting Wednesday for people interested in running for the four board seats at stake in the April 6 election.

The meeting is scheduled to take place in person, but will be moved to Zoom if Lake County imposes further restrictions on gatherings due to COVID-19, organizer Brian Battle said.

Battle served on the school board from 2003 to 2019, the last 12 years as board president. Six to eight former school board members are expected to attend to share their experiences and take questions from the audience, he said. "We felt it might be a nice community service," he said.

Deciding to run for office takes thought, no matter one's passion for education, he said. Candidates also should keep in mind that, while they may be driven to run by a particular issue, serving on the board is a 4-year commitment and entails dealing with lots of different issues, he said.

The meeting is scheduled from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the pavilion of Citizens Park, 511 N. Lake Zurich Road, Barrington. To find out more or get a Zoom link (if needed) email Battle at bgbattle@msn.com.
