D128 Community Education offers variety of fall programs

Since 1948, the Community High School District 128 Community Education program has provided lifelong learning opportunities for adults, youth and families. This fall, school may look different in many ways, but the D128 Community Education program is continuing to offer programs both in-person and with live online class formats.

The District 128 Community Education program will continue to put students' safety first during the COVID-19 pandemic. Community Education students who choose to participate in a class that meets in-person will follow safety procedures established by Community High School District 128 that include a temperature check when entering the building, wearing a mask at all times, hand-washing and social distancing.

Partnerships with local businesses are an important element in the success of the program. The district continues to offer the District 214 Community Education Travel Program, offering group travel to all seven continents along with area day trips. Planning is currently taking place for trips in 2021 and 2022. New this term is a partnership with Destinations with Nadine, allowing Community Ed to expand its travel offerings. Other new partnerships include Sue Garcia Fitness, Periwinkle Art Studio, Nash Boatworks and Lake County Audubon Society.

Community Education online partnerships provide more than 1,000 courses and certificate programs in varied content areas for personal and professional development.

New classes from the Arts section feature Acrylics in Action and Art with Repurposed Materials.

Learn to prepare new culinary dishes, get ready for the holidays by making gifts or trying new recipes to impress family and friends. Classes from the Culinary area include Brazilian cooking, pasta making, cookies, homemade candy bars, edible gifts, side dishes, desserts, hors d'oeuvres, chocolate making, craft cocktail mixology and more.

New classes in finance, real estate and law include Looking for Real Estate Bargains, Virtues of 0 Percent Tax Bracket, Long Term Care Solutions, Wills and Trusts and Relying on 401(k) and IRA for retirement.

Other classes include Rejuvenate Your Retirement, Financial Strategies for Successful Retirement, The Do's and Don'ts of Getting Your House Ready to Sell and Understanding Your Property Taxes.

Health, wellness and fitness are important during the pandemic. Curative Properties of Herbal Tea, Immunity Boosting Through Mother Nature, Meditation for Wellness, Walk 15, Pilates and Yoga are being offered live online.

And pets need to stay healthy, too. Pet Natural Healthcare with Essential Oils will focus on pet health.

Participate in one of the monthly programs that the Lake County Audubon Society is offering to learn ways to appreciate nature to its fullest and learn strategies that will help slow climate change.

New classes in the Technology section will teach students how to design a new website, keep cybercriminals out of their inbox, video conference using Google Meet or improve spreadsheets skills.

Other new classes this fall include Buckthorn and Invasive Species Removal, Scuba Diving, Introduction to Kayaking and Rolling, Fall Vegetable Gardening and Looking Your Best While Online.
