Socially distanced audience enjoys 'Sounds of Laurel Canyon' in Mount Prospect

Set apart in socially-distanced circles, audience members had reason to clap and cheer Sunday during the outdoor "Sounds of Laurel Canyon Concert" at the Veterans Memorial Bandshell in Mount Prospect.

Opening with the Creedence Clearwater Revival hit "Bad Moon Rising," the trio of musicians - guitarist-vocalists Mick Hernandez and Ryan Yueill and drummer Jerry King - performed a setlist that also included songs by the Eagles, Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, Crosby, Stills and Nash and more.

Ruth Yueill, director of community relations and marketing for the Mount Prospect Park District and the mother of

Ryan, said the park district usually has a summer concert series that ends Aug. 1, but due to the pandemic there were only two, socially-distanced concerts this year.

"So we created 'A September to Remember,' which is five Sundays total at our band shell," Yueill said.

The music performances at the events are 'circle concerts,' with audience members in 10-foot circles with six feet between, she said. Attendees were not required to wear masks while seated within their circle, but they were required to do so when moving about the site.
