New Terre Haute casino will limit smoking to outdoor patio
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) - The new casino being developed in Terre Haute will be smoke-free.
Developer Spectacle Jack LLC cited Vigo County and Terre Haute's strict non-smoking ordinances and poor health metrics in making the announcement Friday, the Tribune-Star reported.
Spectacle Jack Chairman Greg Gibson, a Terre Haute businessman, had sought a non-smoking casino from the start, a news release said.
To accommodate guests while meeting requirements of the smoking ordinances, Spectacle Jack and Hard Rock designed an outdoor patio for smokers. The covered patio will feature 117 slot machines and eight table games - about 15% of the 1,060 planned gaming positions.
The ventilation system will be designed to have positive pressure that will expel air from the building when doors are opened, preventing outside air, including air from the smoking patio, from entering the casino, the announcement said.
The Indiana Gaming Commission approved the transition of the Vigo County license to Spectacle Jack on May 15.
The casino is on track for a fall groundbreaking.
