Waukegan Park District announces Family Lotería Nights

The Waukegan Park District invites local families to participate in the free Family Lotería Nights from 6-7 p.m. on Fridays, Aug. 28, Sept. 4 and Sept. 11, at the Jane Addams Center at 95 Jack Benny Drive, Bowen Park. Lotería is a bingo-style game. Although the words on the cards are in Spanish, being fluent in Spanish is not a requirement to compete.

The rules of Lotería are similar to the rules of bingo. A designated card announcer randomly draws colorfully illustrated cards like "La Estrella" or "La Palma." Participants mark spots on their card, traditionally with a raw bean, and attempt to meet the requirements to win (four corners, entire card, etc.) before all other participants. A shout of "¡lotería!" or "¡buenas!" affirms victory for a participant, ending the round.

Registration for Family Lotería Nights is now open. More information, including dates and the registration link, is available at waukeganparks.org/loteria.To ensure the safety of staff and participants, face masks will be required and social distancing will be enforced. If you have any questions, contact Javi Martinez, at jmartinez@waukeganparks.org or (847) 360-4706.
