2 test positive for COVID-19 at Kane County juvenile center
A detainee and a staff member at the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center have tested positive for COVID-19, officials said Tuesday.
A deep clean at the facility is under way, six residents have been quarantined and a rapid response team on Wednesday will test 75 employees and 30 residents, said Doug Naughton, Kane County court administrator.
"This is the first (positive tests) at the detention center," he said, adding the facility is on temporary lockdown and court hearings for detainees are being held over Zoom.
"We're testing everybody that works there (and all the detainees)," Naughton said, adding results should be available in two to four days. "We don't want to keep the kids locked down too long."
Nine staff members also have been ordered to self-quarantine until they get test results, officials said.
The lockdown means detainees would be allowed to be transported to another location only for a medical emergency and intakes would be restricted.
Chief Judge Clint Hull and other officials met on Monday with representatives from the state's Department of Public Health to develop a response plan, which includes Tuesday's deep clean.
