Military equipment has no place in suburbs

Do you know why a suburban county sheriff's office would need a Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle worth $689,000? The DuPage County Sheriff's Office has one.

Or how about a "Combat/Assault/Tactical Wheeled Vehicle" worth $435,000? The Kane County Sheriff's Office has two of those, as well as a $625,000 Backscatter X-ray van.

The DuPage Sheriff has over $750,000 worth of tactical gear from the 1033 military sourced equipment giveaway program overseen by the Department of Defense, according to the Marshall Project. That number pales in comparison to Kane County's $3 million worth of military equipment. Who does this serve? Who does this protect?
