Oak Brook police reporting 'suspicious activity' near mall

Oak Brook police are reporting suspicious activity with "multiple cars driving around Oakbrook Center and the Butterfield Road-22nd Street corridor," according to a department Facebook post around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Oakbrook Center remained closed today, but it is up to private businesses to decide whether to open or remain closed, police said.

Authorities have said they believe a large police presence on Sunday helped turn away potential vandals and looters at the outdoor mall.

In their Facebook post this evening, police said residents will see an increased police presence at the mall and in the immediate area.

"We continue to observe suspicious behavior throughout the day and nighttime hours, however we have not had any major issues," police wrote on Facebook around noon.
