St. Charles man charged with felony domestic battery

A St. Charles man faces several felony charges after he attacked a woman he knew, then ran from police and was caught with a controlled substance, prosecutors said.

Deonte D. Wilkins, 27, of the 1-99 block of North 15th Street, is charged with two counts of aggravated domestic battery/4+ previous convictions, possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor, according to Kane County court records.

If convicted of the most severe charge of aggravated domestic battery, Wilkins faces a sentence ranging from probation to up to seven years in prison.

According to prosecutors, Wilkins became angry with the victim, a 40-year-old woman, about 2:50 a.m. Tuesday and began to punch and slap her in the face and grabbed her by the throat. When Wilkins realized the woman called police, he continued to attack her, pulled her off a couch, onto the floor and knocked over a table, authorities said.

When police arrived, Wilkins ran off but was arrested and short time later and authorities found MDMA, or Ecstasy, in his pocket, according to prosecutors.

Wilkins is being held at the Kane County jail on $60,000 bail, meaning he must post $6,000 to be released while the case is pending. If he does post bond, he is to have no contact with the victim, cannot go to her residence and must surrender all firearms. He is next due in court May 21.
