Illinois man charged in killings of girlfriend, her daughter

URBANA, Ill. (AP) - An eastern Illinois man was charged Monday with murder for allegedly fatally shooting his live-in girlfriend and her adult daughter over the weekend, a prosecutor said.

Jonathon Perry, 28, was arraigned Monday afternoon after being charged with two counts of first-degree murder for both killings, said Troy Lozar, chief criminal deputy with Champaign County's state's attorney's office.

Online court records show that a judge set Perry's bond at $2.5 million Monday and ordered the appointment of a psychiatrist to evaluated the Homer man.

Perry is charged in the killings of his girlfriend, Kimberly Coyne, 54, and her daughter, Blair Coyne, 24, at their home just northwest of the village of St. Joseph.

He was taken into custody early Sunday after Champaign County sheriff's deputies learned that he had visited a relative's home in Homer and 'Å“made statements consistent with injuring or killing the women," said sheriff's Lt. Curt Apperson.

That relative called 911 and deputies found Perry in Homer about the same time other deputies found the victims' bodies.

Apperson said Kimberly Coyne had been dating Perry. Her body was found inside her home, while Blair Coyne's body was adjacent to the home's driveway, The (Champaign) News-Gazette reported.

Perry was being held at the county jail in Urbana. Online court records do not list an attorney Monday who would speak on his behalf.
