Palatine Twp. pledges to keep Easter basket committments

Palatine Township is guaranteeing that all commitments for its annual Easter basket program for children in need will be filled, despite the ongoing crisis of the coronavirus pandemic.

Upward of 700 children from financially struggling families living within township boundaries typically receive baskets filled with treats, toys, games and other items leading up to the Easter holiday. The value of a basket and its contents is about $25.

However, Township Supervisor Sharon Langlotz-Johnson and Outreach Coordinator Lori Lindberg said in a joint statement that it's possible not everyone who took an egg with a needy child's information in it can follow through with a donation now because their employment status may have changed as a result of the pandemic.

Anyone unable to donate is asked to contact Langlotz-Johnson or Lindberg. They'll make arrangements to ensure each child receives the basket.

"We only need your name, information of the child listed on the egg and your phone number in the event we have any questions," the women said in the statement. "We understand if you are unable to fulfill these baskets and know it is something that cannot be helped."
