Wendt nabs Cook Board of Review Democratic nod

Political novice Tammy Wendt of Palos Heights handily defeated Abdelnasser Rashid of Justice, a former deputy assessor/chief policy officer at the Cook County Assessor's Office, on Tuesday to represent the Democratic Party in November's general election for the District 1 seat on the Cook County Board of Review.

With more than 95% of precincts reporting, unofficial results showed Wendt leading Rashid by almost 18,000 votes.

Wendt will face Republican incumbent and former Wheeling Township assessor Dan Patlak, who has been on the Board of Review since 2010.

District 1 stretches from the northwest corner of Cook County to the southwest suburbs.

Wendt, an attorney and longtime real estate professional, has never run for elected office.

She said assessments of commercial properties have unfairly increased under Assessor Fritz Kaegi, who was elected to the post in 2018.
