Dundee Township Park District gets $363,800 grant to improve Hickory Hill Park

The Dundee Township Park District has been awarded a $363,800 park improvement grant from the state of Illinois.

The park district was one of 85 recipients to receive a grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to be used for park projects throughout the state.

Funds from the Open Space Land Acquisition & Development grant will be used to improve the park district's 13.36-acre Hickory Hill Park on 770 Navajo Drive, which includes a baseball field and open space.

Planned improvements include a bike repair station, basketball court, playground, picnic shelter, and a nine-hole disc golf course.

The baseball field will be replaced with free-play soccer areas.

In addition, the project is expected to create a bike path and a walking trail, as well as a new parking lot, to make the park more accessible for nearby residents.

"The Dundee Township Park District is very excited to be able to offer additional park amenities on the east side of our community and meet the need of our residents. This undeveloped park will provide new amenities and connectivity to the neighborhood and Longmeadow Parkway bike trail," said Dave Peterson, executive director of the Dundee Township Park District. "Construction is planned to begin in the fall of 2020 and be ready for our residents to enjoy the following spring."
