Buffalo Grove Park District President Elected Chairman of Leading Statewide Association for Parks

Adriane Johnson, President of the Buffalo Grove Park District, was recently elected Chairman of the Illinois Association of Park Districts' (IAPD) Board of Trustees.

Johnson joined the IAPD board in 2015 and served two years as Vice-Chairman and one year as Chairman-Elect. She will lead the 18-member board in advising the association in its service, research, advocacy, public awareness and educational programs. IAPD's membership includes 360 park, recreation and conservation agencies and nearly 100 affiliated business partners.

Johnson serves on the IAPD Ambassador, Executive, Board Development, Constitutional Bylaws, Membership Nominating and Program Committees as well as the Research Advisory Council. She also serves on the IAPD/Illinois Park and Recreation Association (IPRA) Joint Editorial Committee, Joint Legislative Committee and is the IAPD Events Chair for the Joint Conference Committee. She is a Master Board Member through IAPD's Board Member Development Program.

Johnson was elected to the Buffalo Grove Park District's board in 2011. She serves as the district's Chairperson of the Personnel Committee and is the Board liaison to the Marketing and Public Relations Department and the Environmental Action Committee. During her tenure, she has assisted the Buffalo Grove Park District in acquiring a facility that was developed into a community arts center as well as secure a $1.7 million PARC grant, master plan development for various parks, ADA master plan, and was instrumental in several park and facility development efforts, most recently major renovation of the Community Arts Center, infrastructure improvements to the Fitness Center, improvements to the Golf Dome, and the addition of pickleball courts at Mike Rylko Community Park.

She is a certified Human Resources professional and has more than 22 years of experience in HR with considerable expertise in compliance management, talent acquisition and development, employee relations, workforce planning, program development, project management, and compensation and benefits management. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies from Columbia College and a Master of Jurisprudence in Business Law from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. Johnson is a member of the Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove, a Commissioner with the Village of Buffalo Grove Board of Fire and Police Commissioners and a volunteer with the Taproot Foundation.

IAPD was established in 1928 and is the oldest state association for parks, recreation and conservation in America. The association serves more than 2,100 elected park, recreation and forest preserve district board members who govern more than 360 agencies employing 40,000 individuals.

IAPD strives to improve Illinois' quality of life through park districts, forest preserves, conservation and recreation agencies by establishing grants and other new revenue streams for park land, facilities and services; educating the public about the positive effects parks and recreation have on communities; and meeting the problem of decreasing open space in Illinois.
