District 21 hires firm to oversee referendum building projects
Wheeling Township Elementary District 21 has hired a construction manager to oversee its next set of referendum building projects.
The school board last week inked an agreement with Mount Prospect-based Nicholas and Associates to manage the retrofit of classrooms for full-day kindergarten this summer - a $6.4 million project funded as part of $69 million in capital projects authorized by voters in November 2018.
Last summer, Gilbane Building Company served as construction manager for $37 million worth of work to tighten security at school entrances and install air conditioning in classrooms.
District officials considered the two businesses and another firm, Pepper Construction, to handle the upcoming summer projects, but selected Nicholas and Associates for its work in government construction with a main focus on K-12 educational facilities.
District 21 will pay the company $426,389.
