Prosecutors: Chicago dad killed son in dispute over drug use

CHICAGO (AP) - A Chicago father who prosecutors say fatally stabbed his 21-year-old son during an argument over the child's alleged drug abuse and then cradled him before police arrived is charged with first-degree murder.

Local media reported on Monday that a Cook County judge set bond for 44-year-old Adan Granados at $50,000 over the weekend. Granados was scheduled to make another court appearance Monday.

Prosecutors said at a Sunday bond hearing that Granados stabbed Jesus Granados once in the neck Friday in a bathroom at the father's home in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood.

The father had confronted his son over his use of illegal drugs, including crystal meth, and worried the son might harm other family members, prosecutors said. The son had recently moved into the home.

The father hugged his son after stabbing him, then laid him on the floor as he called his ex-wife and police. When officers arrived, the father told them he had stabbed his son, according to prosecutors. Jesus Granados was pronounced dead at the scene.

It wasn't immediately clear if Adan Granados had a lawyer and, if so, who the attorney was.
