Property tax increase doesn't make sense

It makes no sense Mundelein voted to increase our real estate taxes. People are moving in droves from Lake County. Buyers are having difficulty selling their homes. I applaud Dawn Abernathy for voting against this. The Lake County Board recently voted not to increase real estate taxes.

Mundelein is doing the increase for pensions. More cities in Illinois are in financial trouble due to pensions. Mundelein voted in 2011 to increase taxes due to pensions. How many times can they do this to the residents? A lot of businesses no longer have pensions since the recession. A lot of us have 401(k)s that are now 0(k). We need a break, our home values have not increased since 2006. Taxes have not been adjusted accordingly.

Recreational marijuana should bring in revenue. Recreation Marijuana will be taxed 30%. Mundelein Dispensary covers Lake County and McHenry County. McHenry County has no dispensary. They already are overcrowded at this dispensary. Evanston estimates the marijuana tax could generate $500,000 to $750,000 per year or more.

I am very disappointed they voted for this increase. I and other homeowners in my neighborhood were already concerned about our real estate taxes and how expensive they are. The taxes keep going up every year since the recession and our home values have gone down.
