Hours, exclusive days added for REAL ID applications

Beginning in January, some driver services facilities throughout the Chicago area and northern Illinois will change operating hours and add exclusive days for REAL ID driver's license applicants to accommodate the increased volume, Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White announced Monday.

The new hours, which take effect Jan. 2, 2020 through Dec. 31, 2020, are Tuesday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at these suburban facilities: Aurora, Elgin, Elk Grove Village, Schaumburg, Lake Zurich, Lombard, Waukegan, West Chicago, Deerfield, Woodstock, Des Plaines and Naperville.

"These new work hours are designed to best serve Illinoisans who do not have U.S. passports and who need to obtain a REAL ID by Oct. 1, 2020," White said in a news release.

The federal government will require Americans to use a valid U.S. passport or obtain a REAL ID to fly domestically beginning Oct. 1, 2020.

Illinois residents do not need a REAL ID if they have a valid U.S. passport, military ID or other TSA-acceptable form of identification. For a complete list of acceptable documents, visit: https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/identification.
