Elmhurst Symphony preparing for Stanger auditions

The Dr. Robert Stanger Young Artist Concerto Audition for the 2020-21 concert season will be conducted by the Elmhurst Symphony Association in cooperation with the Elmhurst Kiwanis Club on Saturday, Feb. 15 at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 149 W. Brush Hill Road.

The yearly Stanger Audition provides an opportunity for outstanding high school students to grow as musicians, gain recognition for their efforts preparing for the audition, and compete for the opportunity to perform a concerto movement with the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra.

Only instrumental entrants with a possible orchestral accompaniment will be auditioned. The winner will appear as a soloist with the Elmhurst Symphony during its 2020-21 subscription season and receive a monetary award.

Three runners-up receive monetary awards and are invited to perform for local community groups.

Last season's Stanger Audition winner, pianist Justin Chang, performed with the Elmhurst Symphony at its opening concert of the season in October. He and other winners from previous years played at an Elmhurst Symphony "Musicians at Mayslake" concert in September celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Stanger Audition.

Applications for the audition must be postmarked by Sunday, Dec. 15. The fee is $40.

Each entrant will be given 10 minutes to perform a selection and performances will be evaluated by three judges who will provide written comments and suggestions.

Application forms can be downloaded from the ESO website sidebar at www.elmhurstsymphony.org.
