Longtime Hawthorn Woods Mayor Joe Mancino's boxing match scheduled for Saturday night was canceled.

Mancino was set to enter the ring at the Conquer Boxing Gym in the Libertyville Sports Complex, but his opponent failed a physical exam Friday morning, Mancino said in a Facebook post Friday evening.

This happens often in amateur boxing, Mancino said. "I am bummed, but I trained hard and am in great fighting shape," Mancino said.

"So I win. Thank you for your support. I will now go out drinking instead."

It's unclear if the match will be rescheduled.
