Officials: Apartment kitchen fire near Arlington Heights under investigation

A kitchen fire at an apartment in an unincorporated area near Arlington Heights Friday morning is under investigation, officials said.

An ambulance from the Long Grove Fire Protection District, which was returning from another emergency call, arrived at the apartment on the 4000 block of Bonhill Drive at 11:50 a.m., according to a news release from the fire district.

Firefighters found heavy smoke pouring out through the front sliding glass doors, as well as flames coming from a side window, of the three-story apartment building. The fire was traced to the kitchen of an apartment on the second floor that was being used as the business and security office for the apartment building, according to the release. The flames caused some damage to floor of the apartment on the third floor above the fire, officials said. The fire was under control just after noon.

Three people who self-evacuated from the third-floor apartment were checked by paramedics after inhaling smoke; they were released, officials said.
