Dixon man deemed fit for trial in school shooting case

DIXON, Ill. (AP) - A 20-year-old man accused of opening fire last year at a northern Illinois high school has been deemed fit to stand trial.

Matthew A. Milby Jr. had been found unfit for trial in March. But Sauk Valley Media reports that after undergoing months of mental health treatment, an order filed on Sept. 6 in Lee County Court declared that he's fit to stand trial in the shooting.

Milby has pleaded not guilty in the May 16, 2018, shooting, which occurred during graduation practice at Dixon High School. He's accused of taking a semi-automatic rifle to the school and opening fire.

The shooting ended when a school resource officer shot and wounded Milby. No one else was injured.

Milby faces numerous charges, including two counts of attempted murder.
