Elk Grove Leo Club initiative to aid Almost Home Foundation

The Elk Grove Village Leo Club kicked off its annual Pet Food Drive this month to benefit the Almost Home Foundation.

Through Nov. 1, collection boxes will be available at the Elk Grove Pavilion, 1000 Wellington Ave.; Al Hattendorf Center, 225 E Elk Grove Blvd., Suite 4443; Elk Grove Public Library, 1001 Wellington Ave., and various community schools for the collection of new and unopened cat and dog food and new and unused dog and cat toys and accessories.

This is the Elk Gove Village Leo Club's single largest project that is conducted annually in support of the Almost Home Foundation's initiative in fostering cats and dogs for adoption locally, and in support of cats and dogs impacted and displaced regionally and around the country by hurricanes, floods or wildfires.

In addition to this annual charitable event, the Leo Club has been very active in the community this year through a major parking lot beautification project at VFW Post 9284 on Devon Avenue.

With the help of supplies from Home Depot on Meacham Road, Elk Grove Village, all five branches of the military are now boldly and proudly presented, along with the American flag, on huge concrete blocks adorned in red, white, and blue paint that border the VFW hall's parking lot.

You may have also seen members of the Elk Grove Leo Club volunteering this summer at the Play, Picnic & Party event hosted by the Elk Grove Park District and Village of Elk Grove, or during the recently held Pioneer Days at the park district's Farmhouse Museum along Biesterfield Road.

Upcoming events the Leo Club is spearheading include judging the Halloween House Decoration contest, sponsored by the Elk Grove Park District, and judging of the Holiday House Decoration Contest, sponsored by the Village of Elk Grove.

Both of these events will be conducted along with support from the Elk Grove Village Lions Club, the sponsoring club and umbrella to the Elk Grove Leo Club.

The Leo Club is open to kids ages 12 to 18 to join and they do not need to live within the Village of Elk Grove. Club meetings are held one Sunday morning a month at Panera Bread on Biesterfield Road.
