Democrat Parekh announces Lake County Board campaign

Highland Park resident Paras Parekh on Wednesday announced he'll run for the Lake County Board's 12th District seat in 2020.

Parekh, a Democrat who serves as a trustee on the West Deerfield Township board, is the first person to announce a candidacy for the Democratic nomination.

"I am committed to priorities that are on everyone's mind - lower property taxes, a focus on the environment and preserving our wetlands, and a government that works for all of us, not just the well-connected," Parekh said in an announcement of his candidacy.

The seat is now held by Republican Mike Rummel of Lake Forest, who's been on the board since 2012.

The 12th District encompasses portions of Lake Forest, Deerfield and Knollwood.
