Antioch Taste of Summer offers food and fun July 18-21

The Antioch Chamber of Commerce will be “supersizing” this year's Antioch Taste of Summer festival with four days of food and fun in downtown Antioch.

Events take place on Orchard and Skidmore Thursday through Sunday, July 18-21, near the band shell in downtown Antioch. Admission is free.

In addition to the chance to sample specialties prepared by local restaurants and dine in the sun or under the big top, the celebration offers carnival rides, live musical performances, games, face painting, balloon art and more.

Taste hours are 4-10 p.m. Thursday, 4-11 p.m. Friday, noon to 11 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. The carnival will operate during the same hours except for Sunday, when it will stay open until 8 p.m.

The carnival will open early, from 1-3 p.m. Friday, for a Special Needs Carnival. During this time, only families with special-needs children will be admitted and rides will be free for up to four family members. A caregiver age 18 or older must accompany special needs family members.

Vendors expected to take part include: Lodge of Antioch, Brat Shop, Jerk N' More, Luke's of Mundelein, Tres Flores Funnel Cakes, Bamboo Johnny's Fresh Off the Boat, Hollywood Roadhouse and Papa Fresco's.

All food vendors will offer a $1 taste item. Guests will be able to vote for their favorite taste items from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday. To vote, pick up a voting token at the ID check booth or the Beer Tent and deposit it the vendor of your choice. The winner of the People's Choice Awards will be announced at 3 p.m. Sunday, and will receive free booth space in Taste 2020.

Wristbands will be available for unlimited rides for an entire day, and Mega Sabers Wristbands, allowing unlimited rides for all four days of the festival, will be available for $50.

Planned musical performances include Larry Wimmer & Friends and Modern Day Romeos on Thursday; Elder Kaos and Boy Band Night on Friday; Rosie & the Rivets, Hair Band Night, and Suburban Cowboys on Saturday; and 2nd Hand Soul and Hi Infidelity on Sunday.

In conjunction with the Taste, sidewalk sales will take place throughout downtown Antioch.
