Rabbi to discuss modern rise of anti-Semitism at Elgin church July 21
On Sunday, July 21, Rabbi Evan Moffic will speak about the re-emergence of anti-Semitism in America at First Congregational Church in Elgin.
His appearance is co-sponsored by Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Congregation Kneseth Israel of Elgin and First Congregational Church.
The program will begin at 4 p.m. at the church, 256 E. Chicago St. in downtown Elgin.
Moffic is the rabbi of Congregation Solel in Highland Park.
He introduces a variety of experiences of anti-Semitism in his recent book, "First the Jews," which recounts the history of what he notes is the "world's longest running hate campaign" that has recently re-emerged in the United States as an open prejudice.
Written after the riot in Charlottesville and the murders at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, this book explains the modern rise of anti-Semitism by looking at its historical roots.
His book features a dialogue between himself and a variety of Christian and Muslim scholars.
Moffic will discuss his book, autograph copies and have some for sale.
He is the author of "What Every Christian Needs to Know about the Jewishness of Jesus," "What Every Christian Needs to Know about Passover" and "The Happiness Prayer."
