Millburn school board president to run for Lake County Board

Carissa Casbon, president of the Millburn Elementary District 24 school board, announced Tuesday she plans to run as a Democrat in 2020 for a seat on the Lake County Board.

Casbon, a Warren Township resident, will run for the board's District 7 seat currently held by longtime Republican board member Steve Carlson of Gurnee. The district includes Gurnee, Third Lake and unincorporated areas.

In her announcement, Casbon said she will be focused on fiscal responsibility, transparency and ethics reform. During her time on the Millburn board, she said, the district went from being millions in debt to having a positive balance and cutting property taxes.

"I'm running to serve on the Lake County Board because I believe these simple but powerful principles of fiscal responsibility, transparency and community that lifted up our school district and earned our community confidence can do the same for our county," she said.

Casbon runs a small business teaching private music lessons to students. She won her first term on the school board in 2015 and was reelected in April.
