Sheriff: Sleepy Hollow attack suspect stabbed jail inmate with pencil

The man charged in an April 8 home invasion, rape and stabbing in Sleepy Hollow faces more felony charges after getting into a fight at the Kane County jail and stabbing another detainee with a pencil. according to reports.

Fabian J. Torres, 32, of the 900 block of Saratoga Parkway, Sleepy Hollow, was charged this week with two counts of aggravated battery in a public place, according to Kane County court records. Torres was being held without bond at the time of the incident.

Kane County Undersheriff Pat Gengler said Torres is accused of stabbing another detainee about 8 p.m. May 1.

"During the fight, he used a pencil to stab the other detainee, who only suffered minor injuries that were treated at the jail," Gengler said.

The new charges carry a top punishment of five years in prison. Torres already faces 74 to 245 years in prison if convicted of all 26 felony counts in a home invasion in which authorities say he entered a house on the 900 block of Saratoga armed with a knife and carrying a bag with duct tape, rope and other items.

He is accused of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman and stabbing her 17-year-old brother when he tried to intervene, according to

authorities.

Torres left behind his cellphone when he fled the house and ran to another nearby house and demanded its occupants give him a ride, reports said. When they refused, he ran off and police eventually found and arrested him, according to authorities.

Torres, who was on parole for aggravated arson at the time, is next due in court May 29.
