Softball: Fremd's Arnieri has grand inning

Fremd senior Gianna Arnieri had the inning of a lifetime.

With her Vikings trailing 11-6 going into the top of the seventh inning at Schaumburg, Arnieri belted a grand slam and a 3-run homer to drive in 7 of the Vikings' 12 runs en route to an 18-11 Mid-Suburban West softball triumph.

Multiple hitters for the Vikings were Arnieri (2-for-2), Kelsey Brauer (3-for-5, 2B), Cali DiVito (2-for-6, 3 RBI, HR, 2B), Reagan Goluch (2-for-4, 2 RBI, HR), Elaina Kraus (2-for-5), Ava Jordan (1-for-2, 3 RBI) and Sydney Kruto (2-for-3, 2 runs).

Sophomore Grace Hiller earned the win, throwing the final 2⅓ innings, striking out two and allowing 1 hit.

Schaumburg (10-17, 6-9) was paced on offense by Talia Torosian (2-for-4, 2 RBI), Sophie Rainey (3-for-4, 5 RBI) and Marisa Vodicka (2-for-3, 2 RBI).

Elk Grove 10, Prospect 2: Lauren Clausen (13-4) threw a 5-hitter with 10 strikeouts as the visiting Grenadiers improved to 21-7 and 9-6 in the MSL East.

Olivia Masnica (2-for-5, 2B), Katia Pendowski (3-for-4, 4 RBI, 2B), Morgan Leach (3-for-4) and Jaimie Klicka (2-for-4, 3 RBI, 2B) led the offense for visiting Elk Grove.

Sophomore Amanda Pinter went 2-for-3 for Prospect (7-14, 4-9) which received 2 strikeouts from junior Claire Doherty.

Hersey 16, Wheeling 0: Brianna Luciano (3-for-4, 6 RBI) belted a homer and a double and also threw a 3-hitter with 10 strikeouts for MSL East champion Hersey (18-5, 12-3).

Other multiple hitters for visiting Hersey were Makayla Tsagalis (2-for-2, 4 runs, 2 RBI), Neti Napoli (2-for-3, 2 RBI) and Savannah Gazda (2-for-3, 3 runs).

Jojo Stepek, Nikki Ferraro and Peyton LaCaesye had the hits for Wheeling (3-17, 1-13).

Conant 6, Hoffman Estates 4: Emily Taucher (2-for-4, 2 RBI), Trystin Lovas (2-for-4, 3 RBI) and Ali Falcone (2-for-3) led the offense for visiting Conant (4-17, 4-11) while Julia Flaishaker threw an 8-hitter and struck out five as the winning pitcher.

Hoffman (1-24, 1-14) was led on offense by Brianna Venegas (2-for-3), Gracie Velazquez (2-for-4), Patricia Wadas and Jayleen Saurez (2-for-3). Hawks pitcher Emily Grossi struck out seven.

Palatine 15, Resurrection 2 (5 inn): Host Palatine (23-2) won the nonconference game behind junior ace Rhiann Dick (20-1) who had 5 strikeouts and tossed a 2-hitter. Amanda Stanczuk (2-for-2, HR) and Grace Huff (2-for-3, 2B) led the Pirates' offense.

Barrington wins twice: The Fillies (23-4) won two games in the Class 4A division of their third annual Greg Easter Invite at the Fields of Dreams.

In the first one, sophomore Jackie Albrecht (8-0) threw a 2-hitter as Barrington topped Shepard 5-1. Katherine Stagnito went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Patty Lidbury doubled.

The Fillies also posted a 10-3 win (three innings due to time limit) over Whitney Young (20-4).

Senior Tori Meyer won for the third time in four decisions.

Multiple hitters for the Fillies were Samantha Murphy (2-for-2, 2 runs), Brynn Nevers (2-for-2, 4 RBI), Ellie Wintringer (2-for-2, 2 RBI) and Caroline Huntinger (2-for-2). Teammate Leyden Atlas belted a homer.

Barrington advanced to the final four of the tourney and will face Ottawa at 10:15 a.m. Saturday and then play a second game later in the day.
