Worker who was trapped inside silo released from hospital

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A worker trapped for more than seven hours inside a silo containing gravel in Indianapolis has been released from a hospital.

The Indianapolis Fire Department says 34-year-old Billy Joe Walls was released Wednesday and has returned home to Kentucky a day after crews from several fire departments worked to free him.

The department says Walls had been lowered inside the silo at Milestone Contractors to take measurements and unexpectedly sank into the gravel around midday Tuesday.

Walls was attached to a cable, but he couldn't be pulled out. Rescuers used a vacuum truck to remove some gravel and eventually hoisted him to safety Tuesday night.

Walls works for Riley Tool and Machine of Marion, Kentucky. The fire department says Tuesday was his first day working inside a silo.
