We need bridge building, not slash and burn

Having lived in Chicago most of my adult life, and worked in both city and state government, I've learned that successful and responsive governing requires a significant amount of bridge building not slash and burn.

It seems clear that Rep. Stava-Murray's focus will be to stir controversy rather than create productive dialogue. The former serves no purpose but to divide.

Twenty years ago, we moved from Chicago to the Western suburbs because the cities and towns offered established educational and economic opportunities not present elsewhere. These qualities draw people, responsive government keeps them.

I hope she enjoys her two years, because if her comments are an indication of her style, it will be a short tenure.
