Jail, probation for indoor Carpentersville marijuana grow operation
The case of an indoor marijuana grow operation bust in Carpentersville is closed, with one defendant getting jail time served and probation while prosecutors dismissed charges against a second person.
Robbie J. Marinkovich, 42, and Donna L. Yoshimura, 45, were arrested and charged in February 2017 with numerous felonies after Carpentersville police executed a search warrant for their residence on the 0-99 block of Valentine Street, according to police and court records.
Police said they found 66 marijuana plants, along with drug paraphernalia and a shotgun in the search.
Marinkovich was charged with felony production of cannabis, manufacture/delivery of 30 to 500 grams of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owners Identification card, according to police and Kane County court records.
The most severe charge - production of cannabis - carried a punishment range of three to seven years in prison if convicted, but probation also was an option.
Last week, Marinkovich pleaded guilty before Judge Clint Hull to a less severe felony marijuana possession charge and was sentenced to 30 months of probation, Kane County court records show.
He also served 11 days at the Kane County jail before posting bond, and that time was included in his sentence.
He also must pay $5,460 in court fees and a drug fine, records show.
Prosecutors dismissed felony marijuana charges against Yoshimura, records show.
A phone message left for Brian Sexton, a defense attorney who represented Marinkovich and Yoshimura, was not returned.
If Marinkovich violates his probation, he could be resentenced to up to five years in prison.
