Small plane makes emergency landing at Chicago airport

WHEELING, Ill. (AP) - The pilot and passenger avoided injury when a private plane made an emergency landing at Chicago Executive Airport.

Wheeling Fire Chief Keith MacIsaac says the pilot landed the twin-engine Cessna on its two rear wheels about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday while the front wheel under the nose remained disabled. MacIsaac says that after landing, the pilot shut off the engine, gradually lowered the nose and skidded to a stop. The plane sustained damage and spilled some fuel.

MacIsaac tells the Chicago Tribune that as the pilot prepared to land at the airport in Chicago's northwest suburbs, he noticed the landing gear problem and circled to burn off fuel. Other pilots radioed advice to the pilot on how to handle the landing.

A Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman says it's investigating the incident.
