Residents donate funds, books to library's Book and a Buck Drive

On October 20, the Indian Trails Library ended its Book and Buck Drive, during which $800 was raised to support the purchase of giveaway books for summer reading and 141 new adult books and DVDs were collected and sent to Beardstown Memorial Library in southern Illinois.

"Our Book and a Buck Drive surpassed our expectations," said Brian Shepard, executive director of Indian Trails Library. "Our goal was to raise $500, but our residents went above and beyond that."

Indian Trails Library selected Beardstown as the recipient of the drive because the library has a minimal funds to purchase popular material for its members.

" We created a special bookplate for the donations we received and many of our members asked us what the bookplace meant. We were able to share the story of Indian Trails Library with them. Our new material area has been consistently more populated than normal and it has definitely been noticed," said Trish Scott, director of Beardstown Library.

The library also hosted a display looking back at the 60-year history of the library, commemorating the 1959 Book and a Buck Drive that launched the library in the community.

The Indian Trails Public Library District serves 67,000 in the communities of Wheeling, Buffalo Grove and Prospect Heights.
