Democrats dominate Will County races

Voters in Will County elected a Democratic clerk, sheriff and treasurer, along with two new Dist. 11 county board members Tuesday.

Upon the upcoming retirement of County Clerk Nancy Schultz Voots, Democrat Lauren Staley-Ferry won the post with 122,852 votes over 116,843 for Republican Laurie McPhillips, in unofficial election results.

Democratic incumbent Mike Kelley of Lockport won a second term as Will County sheriff over Republican challenger Jim Reilly of Wilmington. Kelley won with 138,555 votes compared to 100,888 tallies for Reilly, in unofficial results. Kelley has been sheriff since 2014; Reilly is a department deputy.

Democratic challenger Timothy Brophy of Joliet ousted incumbent County Treasurer Steve Weber of Mokena. Brophy finished with 122,067 votes to Weber's 116,734, in unofficial results.

For county board representation, voters in the Naperville portion of Will County split their ballot between Republican Julie Anne Berkowicz and Democrat Michelle "Mimi" Cohen, who finished with 10,309 and 10,159 votes, respectively, in a four-way race, in unofficial results. Republican Kathy Havel and Democrat Jim Kopchok rounded out the race with 8,193 and 7,545 votes.
