Lewis secures Kane County District 3 seat

Democratic candidate Anita Lewis was elected Tuesday to represent Kane County Board District 3, which lies within the city of Aurora.

With all precincts reporting, Lewis received 1,257 votes, while Independent candidate Olynda De Hoyos had 655, unofficial results show. Lewis narrowly unseated Democratic incumbent Don Ishmael in the March primary.

Economic development and job training are priorities for Lewis, who said she also will support maintaining the county's property tax freeze.

As a political newcomer, De Hoyos said she would have offered a fresh perspective on the board.
