Suzanne Glowiak defeats Chris Nybo for state Senate seat

Democratic challenger Suzanne "Suzy" Glowiak earned a seat representing the state's 24th Senate District by narrowly defeating incumbent Republican Chris Nybo Tuesday.

With all 241 precincts reporting unofficial results in Cook and DuPage counties, Glowiak received 48,946 votes and Nybo had 48,660 votes.

Glowiak, from Western Springs, manages an engineering consulting firm and served two terms on the Western Springs Village Board.

Nybo, an attorney from Elmhurst, has served in the state Senate since 2014 after stints in the Illinois House and on the Elmhurst City Council.

The 24th district covers all or parts of Clarendon Hills, Darien, Downers Grove, Elmhurst, Glen Ellyn, Hinsdale, Lisle, Lombard, Oak Brook, Oakbrook Terrace, Villa Park, Westmont, Wheaton and Willowbrook.
