Police say man tried to stab western Illinois officer

GALESBURG, Ill. (AP) - Authorities say a man holding knives in both hands tried to stab a western Illinois police officer, who escaped injury when the knives struck ammunition clips below his protective vest.

A Knox County judge set a $1 million bond Wednesday for 27-year-old Dennis Little III, who faces attempted murder and other charges for Tuesday's attack on Galesburg Officer Patrick Kisler.

The (Galesburg) Register-Mail reports Kisler and another officer had gone to an apartment building where Little had been banned but was seen entering a relative's apartment. Police say Little opened the door and yelled "suicide by cop" as he held up the knives, then stabbed at Kisler during a struggle.

Little is scheduled for a preliminary court hearing on Nov. 19. Court records didn't list a defense attorney for him.
