Man sentenced to 75 years in fatal shooting at Legion post

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - A southwestern Indiana man has been sentenced to 75 years in prison for fatally shooting a man outside an American Legion post.

A Vanderburgh County judge sentenced 22-year-old Darius Bushrod on Tuesday in the August 2017 killing of 32-year-old Anthony Blaylock. A jury convicted Bushrod last month.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports that witnesses said people tried to separate the men during a confrontation at a Legion post in Evansville, but they later confronted each other in the post's parking lot.

Prosecutors said Bushrod opened fire, killing Blaylock and wounding others at the scene, although he was only charged in Blaylock's death.

Bushrod's sentence includes 60 years for his murder conviction and another 15 years from a sentence enhancement for using a firearm to commit a felony.
