Developer gets OK to level SW Indiana silos for apartments

VINCENNES, Ind. (AP) - A southwestern Indiana developer has won state approval to demolish several grain silos to make way for new apartments overlooking the Wabash River.

Developer Andy Myszak's planned $9.4 million Riverview Lofts apartments hit a snag this summer when state officials learned that the silos were listed as "contributing" to the historical integrity of the city of Vincennes.

But the Vincennes Sun-Commercial reports that after a review, Myszak received approval Wednesday from the Indiana Historic Preservation Review Board to proceed with the silos' demolition.

The board will require demolition crews to work closely with a company specializing in historic preservation to keep an eye on the site during demolition and document anything that's found to be historically significant.

Myszak says he expects the demolition work to begin by year's end.
