Slovakia coach quits after 2 defeats in Nations League

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia (AP) - Jan Kozak has quit as Slovakia coach after the team's second straight loss in the UEFA Nations League.

The Slovak football association says it terminated the contract with Kozak at his request, describing it as "an unexpected decision."

Slovakia lost 2-1 to the Czech Republic at home on Saturday in the new European competition following a 1-0 loss to Ukraine.

Kozak's assistant Stefan Tarkovic will be in charge for a friendly international against Sweden on Tuesday. It was not immediately clear who will replace Kozak, who has been Slovakia's head coach since 2013.

Under him, Slovakia qualified for the European Championship for the first time, reaching the knockout stage at the tournament in France in 2016.
