Brock throws, runs, catches 4 TDs as SHSU stops SFA 54-21

HOUSTON (AP) - Ty Brock had a hand in four touchdowns on Saturday as he threw for two, ran for another and caught a touchdown pass as Sam Houston State thundered past Stephen F. Austin 54-21 in the 93rd version of the Battle of the Piney Woods.

Sam Houston State (3-2, 2-1 Southland) won its eighth straight against Stephen F. Austin.

Brock threw for 217 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 46 yards and another score in the first three quarters. Mike Dare and Eric Schmid came in in the fourth quarter and each threw for a touchdown.

The Bearkats opened a two-touchdown lead when Brock lateraled to Schmid who then threw to Brock sneaking around the right side. Brock followed a wall of blockers into the end zone from the 32 for a 28-14 lead with 10:15 left in the first half.

The Bearkats (3-2, 2-1) broke open the game with 23 unanswered points in the second quarter to lead 44-14 at the break.

Tamrick Pace hauled in two touchdowns for SFA (1-4, 1-3).
