Flaming alcohol bottle burns University of Illinois student

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) - A University of Illinois student could face criminal charges after police say he accidentally caused serious burns to another student by setting a bottle of alcohol on fire.

Campus police say the 18-year-old freshman was burned Sept. 27 at Kappa Delta Rho fraternity.

Police said a 21-year-old student was unable to ignite shots of the hard liquor Jagermeister and started adding the grain alcohol Everclear. When the older student again ignited a lighter, the flame spread into the Everclear bottle. He then tossed the flame-filled bottle, which landed on younger man's lap.

The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports the freshman suffered serious leg burns but has been released from a hospital.

Police on Thursday issued a notice to appear in court to the older student, who could face felony reckless conduct charges.
