Sound check: TV On The Radio, Drive-By Truckers headline Goose Island party

Goose Island 312 Block Party

Goose Island Beer Company sends off summer with two days of music at the Goose Island 312 Urban Block Party. Kick off the weekend with headliner TV On The Radio, Sunflower Bean, Mick Jenkins, Ric Wilson, Deeper and Glitter Moneyyy. Follow up on Saturday with Drive-By Truckers, The Hold Steady, Lillie Mae, Joan of Arc, Fran and more. The 21-and-older party will also feature food options from Girl & the Goat, Bub City, Beat Kitchen, The Fat Shallot and other food trucks, and of course, a wide variety of beers to sample. All for a $10 suggested donation to one of this year's participating charities: Project Fierce, Chicago Canine Rescue, Urban Rivers, Planned Parenthood of Illinois or RefugeeOne. 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, Sept 21, and 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Goose Island Beer Co., 1800 West Fulton St., Chicago. $10 suggested donation to one of the participating charities. gooseisland.com/312blockparty.

Baconstock bash

Hungry, thirsty and craving good music? Check out Baconstock 2018 at Romeoville's Metal Monkey Brewing for a full day of tunes, food trucks and tasty beverages. The live performances kick off at 1 p.m. with Speed Babes and include sets by Monk 9, So it Goes, Cheatin' at Solitaire, Bungdoons, 13-Monsters, Speed Freak, The Hamburglars and SuperFrye. Kings Rising in Naperville

The Woodridge-based hard rock band The Kings Rising — Jarred Mason, James Lippert, Ryan Mason and Josh Fritschle — has been hard at work on its third album. In the meantime, catch the Kings when they play Naperville's White Tavern Saturday. The blues-influenced rockers will be joined for a night of edgy tunes by Lisle fuzz-rockers SKYD and Downers Grove's The Roaches. 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at White Tavern, 423 E. The Underground Hours

Tune in at 6 p.m. this Sunday as I join Adela Skowronski and Dan Dick on The Underbelly Hours, their weekly radio show exploring the Chicago area's underground music scene on Elmhurst College's student-run radio airwaves at WRSE-88.7 FM. The show will also features performances from acoustic duo Matthew Michael & Christina Marie and funk/roots rock band Frequilibrium.
