Purported Chicago deal gets 10 years in overdose death

CHICAGO (AP) - A 30-year-old has been sentenced to 10 years in an Illinois prison for selling fentanyl-laced heroin that killed a suburban Chicago man.

The Kane County state's attorney's office says in a statement that Aaron Moore of Chicago pleaded guilty to drug-induced homicide last month. A Kane County circuit judge imposed the sentence Wednesday.

Prosecutors say 34-year-old Richard Gregorie of unincorporated Kaneville Township drove to Chicago in 2016 to buy heroin from Moore, a purported North Side drug dealer. Gregorie died after returning home and taking the laced heroin.

Prosecutors say they hope Moore's sentence would deter others from trafficking in deadly drugs.

Prior to sentencing, Moore was free on $15,000 bond. Under Illinois law, he must serve at least 75 percent of his sentence before being eligible for early release.
